Crusty, Rusty DIY

This is a DIY project where you can take almost anything and give it a old, crusty, rusty appearance. I chose a $2.00 lamp to experiment on.  This is what I was going for:

This was a make it up as I go project. First I started with a shiny brass lamp I found for $2.00 at a junk store. Of course, I started painting before I  remembered the camera.

First I spray painted the lamp two coats of white.

Next I took craft paint in Burnt Umber and Brick Red and dry brushed these colors on the lamp. I was trying to achieve a rusty appearance. You want to leave some of the white showing.

At this point I am thinking this is the ugliest thing and I should just abandon this project!  It could not look any worse so I decided to persevere. Next I took wall Spackle and randomly applied it to the lamp. I started out using a small trowel but found out it worked better using my fingers. Leave areas of the dark paint showing.
Just play with the Spackle until you get a look you are happy with.  Below is the final result.

    And another close up.

If you wanted a smoother appearance use your dampened  finger to smooth while the Spackle is still wet. You can also lightly sand when dry.

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day. We celebrated yesterday with our son and family. Our community pool opened this weekend and the grandchildren had so much fun swimming. Afterwards we had a cookout at our house.  It was a fun time and good food.

Drop by the following parties and look at all the projects and goodies for this week.

    Hugs,
    Sherry

Beginning Of Our Weekend + Giveaway

Last Friday as we pulled into Leesburg Hubby asked if I wanted to get checked into the hotel.  My response was Nooo,  I want to go to Lucketts Antique Store.   What an amazing shop, beautiful items for sale and gorgeous displays. The shop owners organize Lucketts Antique Fair and  they do an excellent job. Return From Antique Market

Drop me in a spot with shabby chic, euro country, burlap, wicker and rust and I am in heaven! That's exactly what I found at Lucketts Antique Market  this weekend. I also got to meet the brains and talent behind one of my favorite blogs... Marian @  Miss Mustard Seed.  Unfortunately our picture together did not turn out. I did get some pictures of her space though.

I did buy some pieces at the market, though not as much as I anticipated.  I'll be showing pictures of my goodies in a later post.  In the meantime here are pictures of the market. Enjoy!

This photo and the one above are of Miss Mustard Seed's space.

I believe both of the chandeliers sold.

See the stack of wicker and zinc plates?  I could kick myself for not buying some when I first saw them.  I came back about an hour later and they were all gone!

I loved the benches covered in burlap. They had sold quite a few by the time I got around to taking pictures.

This ruffled piece of heaven is a shower curtain! I would have loved to see it hung.

I'll have more pictures to share with you tomorrow.  Have a great evening and take care.
    Hugs,
    Sherry

Luckett's Here We Come

    Good evening ladies.

Tomorrow morning we leave for Luckett's Antique Market. This is my first visit to this show and I am excited to see what I can find for the shop...and maybe a little something for myself. Who am I kidding! For everything I buy for the shop I normally buy two things for me. I know Miss Mustard Seed is a vendor there as well as several other bloggers. It should be a lot of fun and I hope I will have lots of goodies to show you next week.

Junkin Treasures + Giveaway

I didn't get to hit the garage sales last weekend. We were busy working in the yard and working on the honey-do list.  I am so excited to be heading to Lucketts Spring Antique Market this Friday. Hubby & I decided to go a day early and hit some of the antique shops, Pottery Barn Outlet and Restoration Hardware Outlet.  Should be a really fun trip!

Just because I didn't make it to the garage sales doesn't mean I don't have junkin treasures to show you.  Oh yes, I have plenty that you haven't seen before!

This is a vintage market basket I bought at a barn sale months ago.  I saw the handle and a small piece of the rattan sticking out of a pile of junk piled up in a corner. I leaped over several  lawn mowers, yard tools and buckets to get to this beauty. The poor guy holding the sale came running over as I am standing on his lawn mower, in my heels, pulling with all my might to dislodge this basket. Several people at the sale came over to help the crazy lady and one woman even held on to my waist to keep me from falling. Yes, this baby is mine and  I only paid $8.00!

Here I have filled the cart with vintage wine bottles.

I picked up this large vintage tool box at my favorite  antique junk shop recently. This is the largest wooden  tool box I have ever seen. It is approximately 4' long. Can't you imagine it full of clay pots and geraniums?

Did you see the two egg baskets behind the tool box. They came from the same store.
    Here's a better picture.

I have two giveaways currently going on. If you haven't entered  Giveaway #1 for the flatware caddy and silver you can enter here.

Giveaway #2 is a stamped necklace with pearls and you enter here.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day!
    Hugs,
    Sherry
