Open House Party #3

Thank you to everyone that participated in last weeks party and those of you that left such kind comments!

My dad's 85th birthday was last Saturday and I decided to surprise him with a visit to Florida. He was waiting for my son and his family to take him to lunch and he was so surprised when I stepped out of the van too. I spent a few days with dad and flew home last night. It was a great trip and I am so glad I was able to be there for his birthday.

Celebrating 1st Day Of Spring

Steve and I thought what better way to celebrate the first day of Spring than make a trip to Ginter Botanical Garden. It was so nice to be outside and enjoy the warm temperature. Warning, overload of pictures!

Inside the arboretum they were having an orchid and bulb show. The colors were spectacular!

Have you ever seen a blue orchid? This was a new one for me.

Below is my pitiful attempt at decorating for Spring.

See the two little eggs in the dirt? With our house on the market those eggs may be my

only Easter decoration too!

Welcome To The First OPEN HOUSE Party

Cheap Trophies DIY

I love the look of the vintage loving cup trophies. Most of the old ones are silver plate and can be quite expensive. Here is my solution.

I found some newer trophies at thrift stores. Most are cheap metal and I was able to buy them for a few dollars each. One was a bowler's trophy and I had to dismantle it and take the six bowlers off the top!

The small trophy in the front is silver plate. The one on left was brass plated and the last one is some type of cheap metal

Here is the secret:

You can find Kryon Looking Glass paint at Hobby Lobby and a number of sites on-line. I have painted over

painted over brass plated and silver colored trophies and they have all done well. The secret with this

paint is very light sprays because it drips bad.

The trophy below in the middle I experimented with adding a little watered down black paint to disquise the

new look.

I used Looking Glass on all of these except the small one. The different metals give different results.

One day I will find a vintage and engraved loving cup in silver plate for a reasonable price. In the mean time I am quite happy with my faux vintage trophies.

French Wine Bottle DIY

One day while browsing through an antique mall I spotted this canvas covered French wine bottle. Once I brought my purchase home I never really found a place to put it. Everywhere I placed the bottle it just looked a little boring to me so it has been tucked in a basket for several years. I always thought it would look better with some writing or numbers on it but I was afraid I might screw it up.

I made a pledge to myself on this post that I would not keep anything in our home that I did not love. At that time I can honestly say that I liked the bottle but it wasn't love. I set out to change that.

Here is the Antique wine bottle before.

I used Word to type and print what I wanted on the bottle. A piece of carbon paper

was taped to the bottle and then the sheet with the printed words on top. Using a pen

I traced over the words to get an outline. The letters were then filled in with a black

paint pen.

Here's the final result!

My bottle is smaller than the inspiration one so I used less words.

Now I am infatuated with the bottle and I think I may be falling in love

I also added the numbers to a $3.00 GW basket

My sweet friend Andrea of French Basketeer and Metis Linens knows I love everything French and especially hand blown wine bottles. She bought this wonderful clear bottle from her favorite antique dealer in Beaune and sent it to me. I was absolutely blown away by her generosity and kindness. I am so very touched by her gift...From the bottom of my heart Thank You, Andrea.
