Yesterday was a beautiful Fall day here in Virginia.
My day started very early as our neighborhood was having their annual garage sale this weekend. Can you believe I didn't buy a thing?
I was home by 8:00 AM and Steve and I took an hour and a half drive to Appomattox, Va. to visit the village where Lee surrendered his army to General Grant and the surrounding battlefields. The meeting between the Generals at the Wilmer McLean house is where the surrender was written which ended the civil war. Most of the original buildings are still there and have been beautifully restored.
The weather was perfect and the trees were just beginning to change colors.
It was a wonderful day to outside.
Above is the home where the surrender was written.
The battle took place right up to the doorsteps of this village.
From there we headed to the Historic town of Appomattox for their Fall festival. It was here that Grant's army captured the the train with supplies that were headed to Lee's Calvary . With his men starving and no supplies, Lee realized there was no choice but to surrender.
They close off the streets for the festival and as you can see it is a very popular event.
Some people even brought their pets!
Of course we couldn't leave this cute area without stopping at a couple of antique shops.
Ill be back later to show you my thrifty finds for the week.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!
